Proof is not a grade, but a term for a specially struck coin,
Often with matt design against mirror finish background,
You will also find this term (Proof/FDC) which is used to describe a proof coin
which is absolutely flawless, without any wear or scratchesFDCFleur-de-Coin Absolutely flawless, without any wear or scratchesUNCUncirculated In new condition as issued by the mint, but not necessarily perfect.BUBrilliant Uncirculated As uncirculated, but bright.
